Traffic Accident Investigation
10 years experience as Senior Accident Reconstruction Specialist in a nationwide traffic safety program conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Supervised a team of investigators responsible for complete case documentation and speed reconstructions of vehicular accidents. Established working relationships and worked cooperatively with state agencies, police jurisdictions, hospitals, and local governments.
Accident Reconstruction
Expertise in calculating speed changes from vehicular damage data, scene interpretation, interpretation, and linear momentum analysis. Conducted over 500 speed reconstructions on motorcycle, pedestrian, and articulated vehicle accidents. Extensive experience utilizing computer simulations, photogrammetry, lamp and human factor analysis. Expert in computer reconstructions incorporating vehicle crash deformation, trajectory documentation, impact scenarios, and collision simulations.
Analyzing Vehicular Design
Specialist in determining the proper usage of passive and active restraint systems (air bags and seat belts) in motor vehicle accidents. Experience in conducting defect investigations on inadvertent air bag deployments and the failure of Automatic Occupant Protection Systems (AOPS). Extensive experience in analyzing the effectiveness of High-Penetration-Resistant (HRP) 5-ply windshield glazing and its effectiveness in reducing injuries due to occupant contact. Expert in calculating vehicular change in velocity (delta v), documenting component intrusion (s) and integrity loss, and analyzing mechanism of injuries.
Traffic Engineering
Extensive experience in analyzing highway traffic designs, including evaluating Longitudinal Barrier and Crash Cushion analyses, grades, and superelevations. Expertise in conducting design analysis of curves and establishing speed limit recommendations.
Educational Instructor
Certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as an Instructor for the Traffic Institute of Police Services. Certified instructor in On-Scene Accident Investigations, Advanced Accident Investigation, Accident Reconstruction, Occupant Kinematics, Computer Reconstruction, and Program Development.
Montgomery County Fatal Accident Unit
A member of this immediate response team of accident reconstructionists working in conjunction with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and the Montgomery County Detectives. This unit is responsible for the complete reconstruction of fatal accidents in the Montgomery County region.
Research Activities
Involved in extensive bio-mechanical and human factors research for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, focusing on:
Reducing occupant injuries relating to restraint system usage
Effectiveness of child restraint systems in reducing injuries
Medical data injury analysis and AIS scoring
Defective vehicular interior components in high speed collisions
Crash worthiness in ratings relative to size and stiffness of vehicles
Evaluation of air bag deployments
